If you would like more proof, feel free to click here and see how long the list actually is.

plano txPlano got its start back in the early 1840s, when settlers came to the area and quickly began to build a new town. A store, a sawmill, and a gristmill drew people’s attention, as well as the completion of the Houston and Central Texas Railway in 1872. By 1900, there were about 1,300 people living in Plano and by 1960 the population had doubled. Over the next couple of decades, the city really kicked into motion with many government projects in the works, so that by 1980 the city had more than 70,000 residents calling this place home. During that decade, a number of large corporations began moving their headquarters to Plano, including Frito-Lay, J.C. Penny, and Dr. Pepper. Today, there is an estimated 280,000 people in what some would believe to be the greatest city in the country.

plano txThere are so many things to do while in Plano. If you are really feeling the need to shop, there are more than 70 shopping centers in the city, including the Collin Creek Mall. Visit the downtown area to browse specialty shops and boutiques for trinkets, hand-made jewelry, and antiquities. While you’re there, you can get a bite to eat of just about any style of food and dining. Several eateries offer rooftop dining, including Urban Crust and Zanata. You can check out a live music show at the amphitheater in Oak Point, the city’s largest park. Besides having the amphitheater, Oak Point Park is 800 acres of beauty and trails. Speaking of trails, there are more than 56 miles of them all throughout Plano. Another great outdoor destination is the Arbor Hills Nature Reserve, a 200-acre park with hiking and biking trails that lead you through three different ecosystems.

Plano is served by one of the top districts in the country, Plano Independent School District.
