Harry Myers Park

So, it is hot and you are bored. What should you do?

Go to Harry Myers Park in Rockwall and enjoy the afternoon, of course. There is so many things that you can do at this Park. For the nature lover, there are plenty of walking trails that wind around the pond and through the trees, too. For the fisherman, there are lots of great areas for fishing in the pond. If you prefer to just relax, then they have a large covered pavilion for you picnic. There is also a simming pool and skateboard park, too. But, our favorite thing is the Splash Playground. They have arches to run through, a large flower that shoots water, buckets that dump on your head and more. The location of the Splash Playground is perfect for a break in the hot summer day. There are plenty on shaded benches for the adults to look on as the kids run, jump and crawl through the water. Even for the most active of children, an hour or so at the Splash Playground will means a nap will definitely follow. And the best part of it all is that it is absolutely free!

Flag Day

Flag Day is observed on June 14th of each year. It originated back in 1977 when Congress passed the First Flag Act by adopting the starts and stripes as our national flag. George Washington authorized the flag and it was sewn by Betsy Ross. The original flag had 13 stars on a blue background and 13 red and white stripes. Stars represented heaven and all of men’s goals, and the 13 represented the number of original states. Blue is the color of the chief, red is the color of valor and bravery and white is the color of purity.

Through the years as states were added the number of stars were added to correspond. The 50th star was added in August of 1959 by President Eisenhower.

Flag Day is now observed by people getting together in neighborhoods or towns to celebrate the designers and the history of our country. Through the years the changes have marked important periods of history in our country.

The flag is a symbol of our independence and of national unity. When you see a flag today, why not salute it and thank God for the brave men and women who are protecting our flag and independence?

Fly your FLAG!

The City of Mesquite proudly promotes the benefits of the airport in the economic development of their city. The purpose of the Mesquite Metro Airport is to provide safe, efficient and environmentally sensitive air transportation facilities appropriate to the needs of the community.

Among the goals of the Airport is to enhance the community and use the airport to it’s maximum. They are compliant with local, state and federal laws regarding airport operations, security and safety. The Airport strives to recover costs through user fees and market value leases and agreements. The Airport wants to be a flexible transportation facility.

If you have never had the opportunity to visit the Mesquite Metro Airport, it is actually a really fun experience. My Brother-in-law recently got his pilot’s license and made flew into the Mesquite Metro Airport to visit family. We had such a fun time visiting the airport and of course watching the planes fly in and out. The highlight for my kids of course was getting in the plane and pretending that they were flying it.

I would definitely recommend the Mesquite Metro Airport for anyone need to fly in and out of the area as well as it has great field trip potential for kids.

Blue Canyon

Blue Canyon Kitchen & Tavern is located at the Harbor in Rockwall.

The atmosphere at Blue Canyon will bring back memories if you have visited a rustic lodge such as those found in National Parks. It is labeled a Destination restaurant. They offer creative American cooling guaranteed to delight you palate.

Renowned Chef Brandt Evans oversees the collection of food and flavors you will be served. Chef Evans offers leadership to young cooks who, just as he, took an interest in cooking at an early age. His two brothers Larry and Scott worked their way up from dishwashers to executive chefs. All three brothers have a passion about offering their guests food and believe in Chef Evans vision to create dishes which stimulate the taste buds. Each chef has a flare and create tantalizing food. The employees at Blue Canyon are like family.

They strive to “entertain your tastebuds” and accept only excellence. They treat their guests as family.

This will be an exciting adventure and a great escape. You can plan dinner or go to the Sunday Brunch and dine while listening to great Jazz. Blue Canyon has a great outdoor area by the bar. For my birthday, some friends and I enjoyed appetizers outdoors and it was a fabulous evening. I highly recommend giving them a try and be sure to tell them that Lake Ray Hubbard Living.com sent you.

Joe Willy’s

Joe Willy’s is located at 2006 South Goliad Street, Rockwall.

Joe Willy’s is a great family owned and operated home town restaurant. The setting is casual and very family oriented. The hamburgers, cheese fries, onion rings and fried pickles will charm your taste buds. Many of my friends swear that Joe Willy’s has the mushrooms around, too! You can dress your own hamburgers from the large table…just the way you like it. A favorite of most men is the huge Chicken Fried Steak, too!

The atmosphere is local community with pictures of the local sports and Jerseys on display for the local sports teams. Joe Willy’s also gives back to the community by doing fundraisers for schools and little league sports.

Give Joe Willy’s a try and be sure to tell them that Lake Ray Hubbard Living.com sent you.
