mclendon-chisholm txIn October of 1968, two communities in Rockwall County joined together and became incorporated as one. The result of that merger was the city of McLendon-Chisholm, Texas. McLendon was named back in 1870 after P.A. McLendon, a landowner who built a combination store, cotton gin, and blacksmith shop that was open and running until 1975. Chisholm, also named after a local landowner (Enoch Parson Chisholm) was officially platted in 1886, with a store, a post office, a school, and the Chisholm Methodist Church. By the end of the 1960s, the residents of both towns were desperate to maintain their rural lifestyle, so they rallied together to get zoning protection by the state of Texas and became McLendon-Chisholm. The city originally only had about 170 people residing within its borders, but as the next few decades went by, the population slowly increased. Today there are more than 1,800 residents calling the city home and the numbers continue to rise.

mclendon-chisholm txMcLendon-Chisholm is located six miles southeast of Rockwall on State Highway 205. Because of its close proximity to Rockwall, it is becoming a popular place for families and empty nesters alike who are looking for a nice, quiet town with the amenities of a big city right down the road. Residents enjoy having the luxuries of the Town East Mall Shopping Center and the Audubon Village Shopping Center, both within 15 miles from their front doors. There are also two libraries, two museums, a campground, and about 50 different parks all within minutes. The best part of all is having the pleasures of Lake Ray Hubbard less than twenty minutes down Hwy 205. People in town say they couldn’t be happier with their lives and never plan to leave. If you were planning a vacation or need to make an emergency flight out, have no worries because McLendon-Chisholm is only 10 miles from the Mesquite Metro Airport and less than an hour’s drive to the DFW International Airport.
