Lovejoy Independent School District

Lovejoy Independent School District serves the Texas cities of Lucas, Fairview, and a small portion of Allen. The district, as it is today, is fairly new. Until recently, Lovejoy ISD offered Kindergarten thru sixth grade and students in the district would then transfer to Allen ISD to attend grades 7-12. The district eventually proposed to merge with Allen ISD, but local residents quickly opposed the notion. That led to the district creating a different proposal, one to build a new middle and high school in order to become a full K-12 district. After voters approved that plan, construction began and as of 2013, Lovejoy Independent School District is complete and educates more than 3,800 students in six schools.

lovejoy isdLovejoy Independent School District is made up of three elementary schools (Hart, Lovejoy, and Puster), Sloan Creek Intermediate School, Willow Springs Middle School, and Lovejoy High School. The district has recently been awarded “Exemplary” status, which is the highest rating given by the Texas Education Agency. It is constantly trying to stimulate minds by involving its students in different activities. For example, the district holds many competitions in an attempt to not only boost learning, but to build self-esteem and confidence through public speaking and presentations. In addition to the competitions, the organization offers its students various clubs and camps as well.

lovejoy isdAt Lovejoy High School, students are offered internships in the fields of study they will be working in. The thought behind this is to gain experience, make contacts, and build a resume for college. The school also offers Advanced Placement programs to students wishing to take early college courses and gain credits before they even graduate. This has really proven to be successful so far. In 2014, more than 175 students earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their achievements on the exams: 84 students received the AP Scholar Award, 14 students received the National Scholar Award, 51 students received the AP Scholar with Distinction Award, and 32 students received the AP Scholar with Honor Award. Research shows that AP students who score a 3 or higher on AP Exams (with 5 being the highest) typically experience greater success in college and have higher graduation rates than students who do not participate in the program.
