Fun In The Sun In Lewisville
Located about 20 miles west of Plano, Texas is the popular city of Lewisville. Incorporated in 1925, it became one of the fastest growing cities in the country after the construction and completion of Lake Lewisville in 1954. Since then, the population has continued to steadily rise with every passing year. Today, the city is home to more than 100,000 people. Yet thousands more visit every week (or more specifically every weekend) to enjoy the many sight and sounds that Lewisville has to offer.
Without a doubt, the city’s most popular attraction is the Lake, bringing in people from all around the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The Lake offers boat rentals to visitors, as well as several campgrounds located around its perimeter. The Lake contains numerous marinas and boat ramps so even on its busiest weekend, there’s always plenty of room for everybody!
The most popular section of Lake Lewisville, just off of Westlake Park, is the place they call Party Cove. At Party Cove, visitors are encouraged to coast in, tie off with a neighbor, crack open the cooler, and enjoy themselves. There are also several places to eat on or near the Lake, some of which include Stan’s Lakeview Taphouse, Sneaky Pete’s, and Captain Jack’s Floating Bar & Grill.
Lewisville has many other fun things to do than just float around on a lake. Take for instance, the Sounds of Lewisville, a weekly concert featuring both regional and national acts. This community favorite that has been happening since 1991 is completely free to everyone. Another fun event is the Western Days Festival in September. At the festival, you can enjoy activities like the Saddle Club Stickhorse Rodeo, performances by the House of Funk Theatre Company, and the World Tamale Eating Contest. Western Days also features some of the best food vendors in Texas, live musical acts, and exciting activities for the kids.
Speaking of kids, the Zone Action Park is where you and the family can go to enjoy an afternoon filled with go-carts, mini golf, and arcade games. But if you’re looking to get out and enjoy nature, there are several parks located in Lewisville. Parks in the area include playgrounds, tennis courts, disc golf, and more than 14 miles of hiking and biking trails. But that’s not all! There are five critically acclaimed courses located within the city, including the Haney Golf Ranch, Timbercreek Golf Center, the Lakes at Castle Hills, the Lake Park Golf Course, and the Lake Park Executive.
Education in the city is mostly provided by Lewisville Independent School District, which is one of the largest in the state. LISD also serves many other nearby cities, some of which include Carrollton, Coppell, Frisco, and Plano. More than half of the schools in the district have recently been rated Exemplary by the Texas Education Agency. A small portion of the city is served by Coppell Independent School District. There are also a couple of private schools in the city (Willow Bend Academy and Winfree Academy), as well as four colleges/universities.
